Amboseli Game Reserve, formerly Amboseli National Park is in Kajiado District, Rift Valley Province in Kenya. The park is 3,260-square kilometer (1,260-square mile) in size and the local people are mainly Maasai, but people from other parts of the country have settled there attracted by the successful tourist-driven economy. The park is a combination of swamps, dried-up lake and semi-arid vegetation.
Very near to the capital city Nairobi, Amboseli National Park is the third most visited game area in Kenya after Masai Mara National Reserve and Nakuru National Park and the visit can easily be done in a weekend. The park is famous for being the best place in Kenya to spot elephants. Particular attractions of this park include a high concentration of elephants and spectacular views of Mt Kilimanjaro. There is a small airport in Amboseli, the Amboseli Airport.
Day 1: Nairobi - Amboseli. Drive south across the Athi Plains home of the Maasai tribe, via the town of Namanga on the Tanzanian border - a small trading centre, and on to Amboseli, arriving in time for lunch. An afternoon game drive provides extensive game viewing where rhino, lion and giraffe may be seen, with Mt. Kilimanjaro in the background. Dinner and overnight at Amboseli Serena Lodge, Amboseli Lodge or Oltukai Lodge.
Day 2: Amboseli - Nairobi. Before breakfast an early morning game drive is provided, this is the best time to see the snowcapped Mt. Kilimanjaro. After breakfast drive back to Nairobi arriving in time for lunch.
